Apple Breakfast Bar

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup raw oats

1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 1/2 teaspoons apple pie spice

1 1/2 cups grated, unpeeled Michigan Apples

1 egg

1/3 cup light corn syrup

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional

1. In medium-size mixing bowl, combine flours, oats, brown sugar, salt, soda and spice. Add remaining ingredients, mixing until thoroughly combined. Spread evenly in 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan sprayed with no-stick cooking spray.

2. Bake in 350o F. oven about 25 minutes or until light golden brown and wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack. Store tightly covered in refrigerator. Yield: 12 bars, 3 x 2 1/4-inches.

Per Serving, 1 bar: 160 calories, 2 g dietary fiber, 3 g fat,
122 mg sodium.
