RED DELICIOUS

The Red Delicious was discovered in 1872 by Jesse Hiatt of Peru, Iowa, from a "Bellflower" seedling named "Hawkeye" and later changed to "Delicious" by Stark Nursery.  It is the most popular variety in the world and in the United States. The Red Delicious offers a juicy and crunchy texture with a sweet flavor which makes an excellent eating apple, but only fair for cooking.
